28 November 2023 – Denia Tower

Nice to welcome Duncan and Marilyn on their first  Monday Walk

They did a Monday summer walk, but this is their first full walk

The aim today was to find a shorter version of the Denia to Javea Windmills walk

We started at Marina car park as usual

The along Les Rotas to the end of the promenade

The next stage was uphill to the abandoned urbanisation

But the road was closed and blocked by a new wall and gate

So I had to improvise an alternative walk

We agreed to climb the road to the tower

Then set off across La Plana towards Javea

We had our banana stop at the tower

Then set off towards Javea

We walked until 1300 then considered our options

Half of the group wanted to be back by 1500 as planned

On the way back we stopped to view the abandoned urbanisation across the valley

We had our picnic lunch at the tower

Where we could admire the extensive sea views

Then back down to the sea front and the long walk back to the cars

Agreed against the usual stop at a bar half way back to the cars

And managed to arrive back just after 1500 as planned

Temperature – 17 to 19c

Time taken – 5 hours

Distance – 16 km

Total Ascent - 335 metres

23 November 2023 – Alcalali to Parcent

Much cooler today, especially in the shade

As always warm in the sun and we soon removed layers of clothing

Lovely views, particularly this one of Parcent

Fortunately the bees ignored us today

We needed a sun trap for our water stop

Have to be reminded to have a drink now that it is cooler

Also a good opportunity to have a chat

The river was very low after the long hot spell

This didn’t stop Pierre and Lynn from taking the difficult way across

Even the large boulders, with “a little help from a friend”

The rest of us were happy to watch

Then a pleasant ramble to the Parcent font

This favourite banana stop is an excellent sun trap

Though it is also a shaded area when it is too hot

By now the wind had dropped and we had a clear blue sky

Not bad weather for late November

We made good time today

So we had another short stop at the Ermita

Then the last  leg  to Alcalali

And a well deserved drink at Bar Toni

Temperature – 11-15c

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9 km

20 November 2023 – Gata to Tossal del Moro

Low cloud and quite chilly as we left Gata

We were not aware that they had changed the one way system in the town

Where we always turned right to park at the post office is now no entry

I carried on and found an alternative way to the car park

The rest of the group didn’t notice the no entry sign and were waiting for me

The sun soon cleared the low cloud away, though it remained hazy

The lower temperatures made for much better walking conditions

Particularly when we started to climb Tossal del Moro

Roger and Jacqueline went ahead and waited for us at the top

The rest of us climbed up at our own pace

And were greeted with bright sunshine at the cairn on the summit

We had a well deserved picnic break at the top

And enjoyed the fantastic, though hazy, views

Surprised to find quite a lot of butterflies around

The track down requires a lot of attention

But it was then a gentle downhill walk t o Gata

With occasional stops to explore abandoned finca

We did a short detour to Font Moli

But we soon chilled in the shade away from the sun

So we cut our planned 15 minute break short

Temperature – 18 to 20c

Time taken – 5.5 hours

Distance – 12 km

Total Ascent – 474 metres
