13 February 2023 – Fig Tree Walk

Richard made a new friend before the walk even started

We should have done this walk last week, but cancelled due to weather

So despite a cloudy and overcast  forecast we were eager to go today

It is four years since we last did this walk

And it was quite difficult even then

We made it to the Fig Tree with just two water stops on the steep road

So everyone was ready for our banana break

The next section has always been overgrown and difficult to find the track

And it has not improved since we were last here

During a short  break we had this great  view of our banana stop

I was expecting problems following the track, and I was not disappointed.

I had to retrace our steps a couple of times to find the right track

But finally reached the clearing about 20 minutes later than expected

From here it is a good forestry track very easy to follow

Most of it has now got a hard concrete surface

Hard on the legs, but less likely to slip and fall

We all managed the “sting in the tail”

And were rewarded with a short break at our “banana stop”

A lot of banter, so much so that I walked right past our picnic stop

A hard, but very enjoyable, walk

Temperature – 5-11c

Time taken – 6 hours

Distance – 15km

Total Ascent – 625 metres
