2 March 2023 – Alcalali to Jalon

14 of us today

This included two new members, Barbara and Maureen

Jean’s sister Sarah also joined us as a visitor

It was another very cold day and everyone dressed accordingly

Fortunately it was quite sunny, which took the edge off the cold

We crossed the river at Alcalali, using the temporary bridge

Then towards Jalon, turning back just before we reached the rastro

It was disappointing just how little almond blossom there is this year

Some are blaming the weather, but I think it is the blight

Over the past five years there have been less and less blossom each year

But this is the first year there is so little we have not organised a blossom walk

Even on our “almond blossom detour” there was very little blossom

This is one of the very few examples we found

Which prompted a group photograph?

But even on this tree you can see there is very little blossom

Once more we had a break at the Ermita

We use this picnic site a lot on our Thursday walks because there are very few other options

As we returned to Alcalali I realised we had been walking much faster than normal

This was, of course, due to the cold

So we finished the walk about 15 minutes early

And we had our after walk drink inside bar Porche rather than out in the square

Temperature – 4-9c

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9 km
