6 March 2023 – Pinos Fossil Walk

18 of us on today’s walk

We met in Jalon to car share, as only limited parking at the start

Lucky we did, because we only just managed to park all the cars

The weather forecast was very good, some came in shorts

However for the first part of the walk it was overcast and pretty cold

Paul sitting in state during the banana stop

Jan distributed the sweets early

Last year there was a new wall right across the official track

Still there this year, but with added ladder!

We were still able to walk around, but baffled why not yet finished

Much warmer by the time we had our picnic lunch

I forgot to update the length of walk last year, so there were some complaints about the unexpected late lunch stop

Pleased to see there was more almond blossom than in the Jalon Valley

We were disappointed that the donkey field was empty

But two of them finally came out of hiding to be fed

Some had only sweets to offer, which the donkeys ignored

Everyone loves the donkeys, and this further delayed our return journey

The undergrowth was much worse than last time, making the going very difficult

Still enough energy at the end to put on a show

It was almost 5pm by the time we finished our well deserved cold drink

Temperature – 8-14c

Time taken – 6 hours

Distance – 10 km

   Total Ascent - 325
