9 March 2023 – Bernia Fort

 16 of us walking today

This included Barry and Linda, back on one of their regular visits

It also included Robin and Sandra on their first walk since 2020

They were on our last walk before the covid restrictions were imposed

It was also nice to have Bianca, who is now working, but hopes to attend the occasional walk

Each month we offer a more challenging walk outside the Jalon valley

This month was from Bernia car park to the fort

I had previously only done this walk at the end of the normal Bernia forat walk

So I had no idea how far it would be, or how long it would take

It was 6km return, but took two hours to reach the fort

This was partly because there is more ascent than I expected

But also because the pace was slower than I anticipated

It was also much colder than I expected

This was due to a quite cold and quite strong wind

And also because it was cloudy so no warm sun

Fortunately most had worn a light jacket

But some had worn shorts!

The walk was harder than most had expected

But I think everyone enjoyed it

Particularly the end of walk drinks at bar Refugio

Temperature – 10-18c

Time taken – 4 hours

Distance – 6 km
